"The 79ers - it's all in the name. Comprised of members of the very best of the 1979 Mod Revival, this four piece group delivers the finest songs of that era with panache and energy. Guitarist Simon Stebbing from the Purple Hearts joins The Chords duo of singer Kip Herring and drummer Brett "Buddy" Ascott. Throw in Long Tall Shorty's long-standing bassist Ian Jones and you have the very essence of a "Mod Supergroup"!

These recordings are taken direct from the sound desk of three of their shows, from Guildford up to Edinburgh, to Leon in Spain. They capture the band at their peak, performing classics such as The Chords' "Maybe Tomorrow" and "Something's Missing", the Purple Hearts "Frustration" and "Millions Like Us", and Long Tall Shorty's "On The Streets Again". There is even a rendition of the Vibrators' classic single, "Baby Baby" as Kip was their singer for a number of years in the late 70's.

Throw in a handful of choice covers of Who, Spencer Davis Group and Small Faces' songs and you have the perfect night out - or night in, with this storming CD!"

Perfect summary of the recent live performances, a perfectly acceptable sample of each of the band members back catalogues, performed with both the enthusiasm of youth and the technical proficiency that comes with experience.
My only criticism would be the same as at the gigs......LTS were a fantastic live band and deserved to have more tunes included in the sets.

I was lucky enough to be at the Liquid Rooms where most of this live performance was recorded. Had a great evening hearing and singing the soundtrack of my youth. Been great to get a recording of that.

The 79ers just ooze quality and have some of the finest musicians from the 79 era. They play these songs with passion and a lot of love for them.

100% recommended.
