The Negatives formed in Bradford in the summer of 1978 with members Dave Wilcox RIP (Vocals), Pete Stobbs (Guitar), Bob Robinson (Bass) and Tino Palmer (Drums). They had a very strong local following, the highlight of which was 1000 local fans turning up at their final gig at Bradford University Great Hall in December 1979 after which the band split up.

The Negatives had released a 1979 single ‘Stakeout’/Love is Not Real’ on Look Records which sold out of all the 1000 copies pressed and was played on Radio 1 by John Peel. The tracks were re-released on CD and LP on the ‘Bored Teenagers’ compilation series in 2001 and as a vinyl 45 on Paramecium Records (PAR-011) in 2014.

The Negatives whilst perhaps missing out on the big time first time round, gained wider appreciation in the longer term. The band were both amazed and humbled to be included in John Peel’s treasured box of 140 special records along with only 4 other punk/new wave bands. A television programme about the record box was broadcast on Channel 4 television in 2005 featuring commentary from Elton John and others.

Three tracks were recorded in the ‘Stakeout’ sessions at September Sound Studio in Huddersfield. The unreleased track was the now iconic ‘We’re from Bradford’ which was subsequently released on the Bored Teenagers series in CD/LP format but is released for the first time here on vinyl 45 format, together with another 1978 song ‘Little Green Man Fever’.

‘We’re from Bradford’ was chosen by top BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans as the title of his show broadcast on the 7th October 2015 and excerpts from the track were played around 12 times to an audience in excess of 1.5 million listeners prompting demand for a re-release.

Little Green Man Fever unreleased until the 'Bored Teenagers 5' CD/LP  in 2009 and now for the first time on vinyl 45, was based on Tino imagining what it would be like to be invaded by aliens. The song was often the opening song of the live sets and a firm crowd favourite.

In April 2015, the remaining surviving members met at Voltage Studios in Bradford to record two songs being for the first time ‘No Alternative’ a strong live track and to re-record ‘World War 3’ both tracks written in 1979 but previously unreleased until now.

The Negatives are and always will be very proud of their home town a multicultural city with rich diversity. Bradford is famous for its arts being the birthplace of renowned artist David Hockney, authors the Bronte Sisters, Magician Dynamo and musicians such as Smokey, New Model Army, Terrorvision, Tasmin Archer and Kiki Dee.
The song is dedicated to all the Bradford Punks of 1979 but also to anyone who is still proud to call Bradford their home town.
