When The Damned recorded the Captain Sensible-penned "Smash It Up" back in 1979, it was as a castrated 2-parter only. While Captain Sensible much later recorded a reworked solo rendition of Part 4, Part 3 has never seen the light of day until now.

Many people have seriously doubted that they would ever hear the full and ultimate version of "Smash It Up" as originally intended by Captain Sensible:

The wait is finally over!!!

Culled from Captain Sensible's own original reel-to-reel 1979 demo tape, "Smash It Up" (Parts 1-4) has been carefully restored, and it is with great joy that we can finally unearth this long buried punk anthem.

Captain Sensible (real name Ray Burns) started his musical meanderings in the early ‘70's playing keyboards and guitar in bands such as Genetic Breakdown, Johnny Moped & The 5 Arrogant Superstars, and Johnny Moped's Assault & Buggery, who in turn would evolve into simply Johnny Moped. However, once the punk revolution swept the shores in 1976, Sensible left the Moped gang in favour of a bass-playing job in The Damned.

Along his long illustrious time with The Damned, Captain Sensible has enjoyed a parallel roller coaster ride of a solo career, peaking in 1982 when he topped the UK charts with "Happy Talk". Since then Captain has released a string of more mature and critically acclaimed albums.

Make absolutely no mistake about it, Captain Sensible is an incredibly gifted guitar player. "Smash It Up" (Parts 1-4) brilliantly demonstrates the Captain's unique tunefulness, ear for melody, and trademark guitar sound. He excels on both vocals and guitar during the many shifting moods, never forcing anything unless warranted by the song.

The B-side holds another 3 unreleased tracks, once again taken from Sensible's vintage reel-to-reel tapes. "The Cow" and the instrumental "Singalongasensible" are completely unreleased in any form, while "Love Song" was the first top-20 hit for The Damned back in 1979.
