From the legendary Mark Four/Creation guitarist (and in the early 60's, the first to use a violin bow to play the guitar) Eddie Phillips! His reputation as a guitarist has always been criminally overlooked in established guitar-playing circles, possibly because The Creation never achieved the level of success attained by their contemporaries, The Who. Nevertheless, he was an innovative and imaginative guitarist. Along with Pete Townshend he was one of the early pioneers of feedback. One press story of the day - still a documented part of the Creation legend - has Pete Townshend asking Eddie to join The Who as a second guitarist. When turned down, so the story goes, Townsend made do with joining the Creation fan club! Over the last five decades Eddie has been involved in many musical projects, but it's his work with Mark Four and The Creation that most people remember. When asked to describe The Creation's sound, he once proclaimed "Our music is red with purple flashes" - classic! Eddie explains "When current Creation vocalist Simon Tourle (who sings lead on three tracks) and I started to realize the album, we decided to record some of the original Mark Four and Creation songs in a different style - "Work All Day" has been given an organic acoustic feel, "I'm Leaving" has been given a completely different groove, and we simply had a ball with "Biff Bang Pow!" (one of my favorite Creation songs)." There's also a tribute to late Creation singer Kenny Pickett entitled "Mr X." "There are absolutely no old man's tedious or speculative elements on this record. On the contrary, it is altogether an interesting and quite charming album that combines the best of 60's British freakbeat and mod/beat tradition with 90's Britpop. Hopefully, we now see a new start for Eddie's career, which puts him where he belongs - at the forefront of pop and rock music."
