Detour Records Off-Shoot Punk label "ONLY FIT FOR THE BIN" are immensely proud in bringing these historic punk recordings out. They may of only been a small part of the UK Punk Rock scene BUT they made their mark as releasing ONE of the RAREST PUNK SINGLES ever made and now have been cemented in PUNK ROCK HISTORY!

"The Grout" started off life as "VD Scab & the Anoraks" in 1976, changing their name to "The Grout" in 1977. A roughly recorded piece of filth called "Obsession" gave inspiration for more members to join, real instruments (loosely speaking) to be obtained and so a small ensemble, inspired by what "John Peel" was playing at the time and the first "Live at the Roxy" album produced more rough recordings - although they had no vocalist at this stage.

Boosted by the fact that the guitarist now had a full set pf strings and the drummer actually had a Hi-Hat, the guys played their first gig at a girls' house party (the gig that is seen on the EP sleeve). Band rehearsals took place in a large hen shed on a nearby farm, but was later demolished so the band had to move to the loft on the other side of the farm.

A few concerts were held, these were fraught with electric shocks, broken floor-boards (due to pogoing) and bumping heads on the low beams. One time the band members had to go out into the street and encourage people in to see the band.

Soon, a struggling guitarist turned up, he was welcomed into the band as he had a nice guitar and actually knew a few chords!

The band went into "Cargo Studios" in Rochdale in March 1978 to record six tracks, but were not happy with the final product. So they returned in December 1978 to record the single which consisted of four tracks. "Cremation at Belson" & "Fast Cars" can be heard on "Bored Teenagers" volume 1 compilation album.

Four test pressings were given to the band but they were awful quality, but the band were told that the final copies would be better. So the band accepted the test pressings and went ahead and ordered 100 finished copies. At this stage in their musical career, they were young and naive and didn't question this. We'll, the finished copies arrived and were just as bad as the test pressing copies - built in crackle and no treble!!! They sold the EP complete with it's photocopied hand made sleeves at a loss, but sold them all. Most of them were sold through the three local record shops, family & friends (and the odd fan). Dizzy who runs this web site actually bought his own copy off one of the teachers who used to teach the band from the local school. At the time he was encouraged into supporting a local band (or was he bribed?) Either way, he made a shrewd investment time he sold it!!!

After the death of "The Grout" in 1981, and after an ugly incident involving a 12 inch Vox combo amplifier, the band all went their separate ways. 'Paul Paint', the guitarist went on to play with the Valiants, a Mod / Power-pop / Ska outfit who recorded an whole album worth of material with "100K Records", but the drummer nicked three microphones from the studio, so the disc was never pressed...Anarchy!!!! The singer went onto London and made demos with bands such as 'Big Ear Metropolis' & 'Rhythm Method'.

All five members still live in the same town, four of them still regularly meet up for a pint or two.

("ONLY FIT FOR THE BIN" WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT ….“THE BIG G”.... PUNK ROCK EXPLODED ONTO THE LONDON SCENE IN 1976, BUT AS IT GAINED PACE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR ITS IDEALS WERE EFFECTIVELY EMASCULATED AS THE MOVEMENT’S LEADING LIGHTS SUCCUMBED TO THE ALLURE OF FILTHY LUCRE, BECOMING THE BITCHES OF MAINSTREAM MEDIA CORPORATIONS. BY 1977 THE RIPPLE EFFECT HAD REACHED FAR FROM THE EPICENTRE TO OTHER BLEAK, RECESSION HIT UK CITIES. PLACES WHERE NO RECORD COMPANY A&R STAFF EVER VENTURED - THE FROZEN WASTES NORTH OF HATFIELD. THE HEADY, PETROLEUM STENCH OF REBELLION BLEW OVER NEWCASTLE, WHERE PUNK ROCK WAS LESS OF A FASHION BANDWAGON, MORE OF AN AMPHETAMINE FUELLED CALL TO ARMS TO DISCONTENTED YOUTH TRYING TO SURVIVE AMID THE URBAN DECAY. IT BECAME A PLATFORM FOR ALIENATED, SOCIALLY EXCLUDED KIDS WITH NO FUTURE AND NO FUN TO CREATE THEIR OWN BIT OF ACTION. IN THE THICK OF IT WAS THE BIG G, WHOSE BLISTERING LIVE PERFORMANCES WERE A CALL TO ARMS TO PUNKS AROUND THE NORTH OF ENGLAND, FANNING THE FLAMES OF YOUTH REBELLION WITH THEIR POWERHOUSE, ROCKET BLASTED SONGS, STREET LEVEL LYRICS AND CONFRONTATIONAL ATTITUDE, REMINISCENT OF IGGY & THE STOOGES OR THE MC5. ….KICK OUT THE JAMS MUTHAFUCKERS!. HARRY HACK AND THE BIG G WERE COUNTERCULTURAL REVOLUTIONARY, ANARCHO ANTI-AUTHORITARIAN, GROUCHO MARXIST, ABSURDIST REACTIONARY YIPPIE PUNKS WHO WANTED TO FUCK THE SYSTEM!!. “I HATE THE WHOLE HUMAN RACE” AT LAST SHOWCASES THIS REMARKABLE BAND TO THE WORLD. A BLAST OF SPINE TINGLING NOSTALGIA FOR THOSE “WHO WERE THERE”….OR A SONIC WHITE KNUCKLE RIDE FOR ANYONE WITH NO PREVIOUS NOTION OF THIS RIOTOUS ASSEMBLY!. “JUST WHAT IS IT YOU’RE REBELLING AGAINST JOHNNY?.......“WHAT YA GOT?” WAS DEFINITELY THE ATTITUDE. THE BIG G STILL WANT TO FUCK THE SYSTEM, ALTHOUGH THESE DAYS ARE MORE INCLINED TO SIT BACK AND WATCH WHILE THE SYSTEM FUCKS ITSELF!. TRACKS FEATURED ... I HATE THE WHOLE HUMAN RACE / ARTSY FARTSY / STARSKY & HUTCH / FUCK THE SYSTEM / APATHY ROW / SOMEONE’S GOTTA LOSE / WAITING FOR THE BLACKOUT /  UNRELEASED 7” (ALTERNATE VERSIONS) THAT WAS CUT AT 'PORKY PRIME CUT'. ...I HATE THE WHOLE HUMAN RACE / STARSKY & HUTCH / APATHY ROW) <<< LIMITED EDITION OF 300 COPIES >>>

Grass Root level Punk Rock from 1977 outta of a notorious housing estate in Gravesend. The band formed in the early days of '77 to a bleak outlook and depressing scenes that were happening all around them. They slogged around all the music venues of the area getting hassled and abuse and in most cases banned. On many occasions, the manager used to bundle them into his car and whisked away for their own safety…. Their lucky break came on when they were invited to play THE ROXY CLUB on Tuesday 28th February 1978, playing support to Bloodsport (who would later become Killing Joke).

More gigs followed throughout Kent but felt they were in a rut and on the advice of their manager they changed their name to something more friendlier.... (reallly?).

So in late '78, they adopted the new name of THE BIG JOBS... Sadly this didn't really help with getting gigs and the band imploded in early '79 as two members had to go on a short break at her majesty's pleasure.

In their short existence the band did actually venture into their local recording studio which was situated in the Medway area. Sadly the band were totally out of their heads and only managed to lay down eight tracks before the studio engineer stropped a wobbly and gave up on them. However, the band did walk away with the reel to reel master tape to the actual recordings that included all their stage favourites ….

So for the first time, you can here all the tracks direct off the master reel to reel tape….. AND on top of that, we have managed to convert a old 8mm cine film footage of the band playing in the “Hit & Miss” public House. The footage is a bit dark and very chaotic BUT this captures the band in full flight….

"ONLY FIT FOR THE BIN" WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT …. AN OVERLOOKED MASTERPIECE FROM ...  THE LUCYS A POST-PUNK NEW WAVE BAND FROM THE EARLY 1980'S WHO AFTER THEIR ONLY JOHN PEEL SESSION, JOHN SAID…. THIS BAND MUST BE SIGNED UP!' THE MAIN NUCLEUS OF THIS BAND FIRST CAME TOGETHER IN 1978 AFTER THE EXPLOSION OF PUNK'. THEY EMBRACED THE “DO IT YOUR SELF ETHICS” BUT FELT THEY WERE SLIGHTLY TOO OLD TO SHOW THE TRUE SPIRIT OF PUNK ROCK! WHEN PUNK WAS WANING A NEW SCENE WAS SMOULDERING … POST-PUNK WAS BORN AND THE LUCYS HAD FOUND A SCENE THEY COULD IDENTIFY WITH.  AS 1979 ENDED, THE BAND FELT AT HOME AND THEY ADOPTED THE SLOGAN... 'RHYTHM FOR THE 80'S' DUE TO THEM HAVING TWO BASS GUITARS, PERCUSSION AND DRUMS WHICH WAS A VERY UNIQUE LINE UP. AS THIS SCENE SPREAD, OTHER BANDS SPRUNG UP LIKE ‘DELTA 5’, THE RAINCOATS’, ‘SCRITTI POLITTI’, ‘AU PAIRS’ TO NAME A FEW. THEY WERE QUICKLY PICKED UP BY ‘CHERRY RED’ RECORDS AND RECORDED A FULL LENGTH ALBUM IN 1981 AFTER DOING A SESSION FOR THE LATE JOHN PEEL. SADLY THE ALBUM NEVER CAME OUT AND LAID UNRELEASED UNTIL NOW!  <<< LIMITED EDITION OF ONLY 200 COPIES >>>

("ONLY FIT FOR THE BIN" WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT …. "MURDER THE DISTURBED"NOT A HOUSEHOLD NAME BUT EVERY DISCERNING  PUNK COLLECTOR OR FAN WOULD BE FAMILIAR WITH THIS NORTH EAST BAND…THE BAND WAS FORMED IN 1977 IN CONCORD, A SUBURB OF WASHINGTON, TYNE AND WEAR. LIVING WITHIN A STONE'S THROW OF EACH OTHER, THE FOUR UNEMPLOYED 17 YEAR-OLDS USED TO HANG AROUND THE TOWN’S OVAL YOUTH CLUB, BORED STIFF AND PESSIMISTIC ABOUT THEIR PROSPECTS. AT THE TIME, THE PUNK SCENE WAS JUST GETTING OFF THE GROUND IN THE AREA AND NEWS THAT SOMEONE AT THE YOUTH CLUB, STEVE ‘ZODIAC’ MINTO, HAD A GUITAR WAS THE CATALYST FOR THE LADS GOING OUT IN SEARCH OF INSTRUMENTS TO FORM A BAND; THE TALE OF DANNY TINDALE CRAWLING AROUND A MUSIC SHOP WINDOW ACQUIRING USEFUL EQUIPMENT, GUIDED BY POINTING FINGERS FROM OUTSIDE, HAS PASSED INTO LOCAL FOLKLORE. GEARED UP, THE BAND NAMED THEMSELVES THE DISTURBED BECAUSE THEY FELT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO HAVE A NAME WITH ‘THE’ IN IT. DESPITE NOT BEING ABLE TO PLAY MUCH, IF AT ALL, THEY WERE CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO HIT THE ROAD. THE ORIGINAL LINE-UP WAS JOHN FARRER AND CHRIS MORDEY ON VOCALS, ROY ERRINGTON ON BASS, TOMMY WATSON ON DRUMS AND STEVE ZODIAC ON GUITAR. THE FIRST GIG WAS AT THE OVAL IN JANUARY 1978, WHERE THE HOSTILE REACTION OF THE AUDIENCE PROMPTED A NAME CHANGE TO MURDER THE DISTURBED. ROY ERRINGTON TOOK THE THREATS OF VIOLENCE SERIOUSLY AND LEFT, SO CHRIS MORDEY HAD TO TRANSFER TO BASS. SADLY THE BAND ONLY EVER RELEASED ONE 3-TRACK 7” ON THE ’SMALL WONDER’ LABEL BACK IN 1979.  THIS COLLECTION HAS BEEN PAINSTAKINGLY PUT TOGETHER FROM OLD CASSETTES THAT THE BAND HAVE COUPLED TOGETHER AND BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE BY A EVER LOVING STUDIO ENGINEER… AS THE TRACKS HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM SEVERAL DIFFERENT SOURCES, THEY DO VARY IN SOUND QUALITY…. ON SAYING THAT, JUST TAKE A LISTEN TO THE OUTSTANDING TRACK… MOTHER DEAR….. ) <<< ONLY 200 COPIES PRESSED >>>

("ONLY FIT FOR THE BIN" WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT …. THE LEGENDS OF THE ROXY CLUB FINALLY SEE THEIR DEBUT ALBUM… YES THAT’S RIGHT!!  IT MAY BE 35 YEARS TOO LATE BUT IT WAS CRIMINALLY INSANE THAT THIS BAND NEVER RELEASED AN ALBUM OR EVEN A SINGLE FROM BACK THEN. THIS MAY BE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE BAND NEVER SET FOOT IN A RECORDING STUDIO…. HOWEVER, THEIR LIVE APPEARANCES WENT DOWN IN PUNK FOLKLORE… WITH THE SNARLING VOCALS OF BOB KYLEY, THE DRIVING GUITAR OF SEAN BURKE AND THE POWERHOUSE DRUMMING OF BARRY BENN MAKE THIS ALBUM OUTSTANDING… SADLY JENNY RATE COULDN’T BE FOUND AND BARRY O’CONNOR IS SADLY NO LONGER WITH US… THIS ALBUM CAPTURES THE BAND RE-LIVING THEIR YOUTH AS SPECIAL GUESTS TO THE FALL AT THE WINDSOR THEATRE ROYAL ON 1ST OCTOBER 2009. THIS LIVE SET REALLY SHOWS OFF THAT THIS BAND HAD A LOT OF POTENTIAL.. AFTER THE BAND SPLIT, SEAN BURKE AND  BARRY BENN JOINED TUBEWAY ARMY ALONG SIDE GARY NUMAN. THIS ALBUM FEATURES 10 LIVE TRACKS FROM THAT NIGHT BACK IN 2009 WHICH ARE SUPERB QUALITY AND FOR THE COLLECTORS AMONG US FEATURES TWO TRACKS FROM A OLD REHEARSAL TAPE FROM 1977. FEATURES - 1969 / OPEN SORE / POSTAGHOSTA / STAB RIDDLE / LITTLE HITLER / KILL ST JOY / SEARCH AND DESTROY / EYES ON YOU / VERTIGO / VERTIGO REPRISE. BONUS TRACKS FROM 1977 - ELAINE / VERTIGO)

"ONLY FIT FOR THE BIN" WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT …. YES…. THE PITIFUL… THE MYSTERY BAND THAT HAS GONE DOWN IN PUNK FOLKLORE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE LEGENDARY ‘FAREWELL TO THE ROXY’ ALBUM BUT NEVER WAS!! THE STORY GOES THAT THE BAND PLAYED SO BADLY ON THE NIGHT THAT THE ALBUM WAS RECORDED THAT ‘LIGHTNING RECORDS’ DECIDED TO DROP THE BAND AND GIVE ‘THE UK SUBS’ & ‘THE BEARS’ AN EXTRA TRACK EACH. THIS WAS THE STORY BEHIND WHY THEY WEREN’T INCLUDED IN THE ALBUM AND WAS BANDED ABOUT FOR 30 ODD YEARS UNTIL ONE OF THE BAND MEMBERS WAS LOCATED AND APPEARED ON THE ‘PUNK ‘77 WEBSITE’. WHEN MARK TATE WAS INTERVIEWED FOR THIS WEB SITE, HIS STORY WAS TOTALLY DIFFERENT TO WHAT HAD BEEN SAID BEFORE. HIS VERSION WAS THAT THE BAND WERE ON FINE FORM BUT FELT THAT THE SOUND ENGINEERS WASN’T DOING HIS JOB PROPERLY AND AN ARGUMENT ERUPTED AND ONE OF THE BAND MEMBERS (NO NAME MENTIONED) LOBBED ONE OF HIS DRUM STICK AT THE SOUND ENGINEER WHILE THEY WERE ON STAGE AND SUBSEQUENTLY THE RECORDINGS WERE MUCKED UP (ON PURPOSE?) LEAVING NO TRACKS TO APPEAR AND THE REST HIS HISTORY!  SO HERE WE ARE, SOME 35 YEARS ON AND THE PITIFUL FINALLY SEE THEIR LONG LOST TRACKS FINALLY RELEASED SO THAT EVERYONE CAN JUDGE FOR THEMSELVES. THE FIRST THREE TRACKS ARE ACTUALLY STUDIO TRACKS THAT WERE RECORDED IN LATE 1977. THE ACTUAL MASTER TAPES ARE LONG GONE SO THESE TRACKS HAVE BEEN RE-MASTERED FROM A DUSTY OLD CASSETTE TAPE THAT WAS FOUND AT A BACK OF AN OLD DRAW. NEXT UP IS TWO OLD LIVE RECORDINGS WHERE YOU CAN HEAR THE PITIFUL IN THEIR OWN ENVIRONMENT.  THIS PRESS RELEASE WILL BE A BIT DIFFERENT TO MOST PRESS RELEASES AS WE WON’T GO ON ABOUT HOW GREAT THESE TRACKS ARE OR THAT THEY ARE LONG LOST GEMS ETC. THESE RECORDINGS ARE ROUGH AND READY, VERY CHAOTIC AND EVEN SHAMBOLIC IN PLACES. THIS IS PUNK ROCK AT GRASS ROOT LEVEL, FOUR TEENAGERS WITH NO PAST MUSICAL EXPERIENCE THAT WERE IN THE RIGHT PLACE AND THE RIGHT TIME!  THE LIVE RECORDINGS ACTUALLY FEATURES TWO EX MEMBERS OF THE 101ERS, ‘MOLE’ AND ‘RICHARD DUDANSKI’ WHO WOULD EVENTUALLY END UP PLAYING DRUMS ON ‘PUBLIC IMAGE LTD’ DEBUT ALBUM. THESE RECORDINGS ARE A PIECE OF PUNK ROCK HISTORY!!!
